The Archduke and the Assassin – a new play performed by Chesham Bois Catholic Players

This play is an account of an extraordinary historical event when a group of Bosnian youths wanted to free Bosnia from the occupation of the Austro-Hungarian empire. But through ill luck, fate and a fair amount of incompetence they instead managed to instigate the start of the First World War! This is a thrilling, funny, heartfelt story which also happens to be true!

Politics, Patronage and Prostitution – The experience of Medieval women

Christ Church, Oxford

This weekend offers the chance to hear papers from a group of specialists on those matters which involved and concerned women generally. By sampling some individuals, such as Christine de Pisan, Heloise, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Joan of Arc, as well as taking a look at the experiences of those less famous, we shall endeavour to answer the question: what was it like for women to live in the medieval world?
